Reminder: Upcoming Webinar – Thinking about cyber security

A reminder that, in place of April’s Finance Network Meeting, we will be holding a webinar on cyber security with Jez Rogers, Cyber Security Advisor with the Cyber Protection Network.

A reminder that, in place of our usual monthly Finance Network meeting on Wednesday 19 April, we’re delighted to invite Jez Rogers, Cyber Security Advisor with the Cyber Protection Network, to present on the very important subject of cyber security. Cyber security is a key element of good financial governance because of the ever-increasing threat and new ways of working. Find out more below, including how to book your place.

The Cyber Security Risk

If you’re a small or medium-sized organisation, then there’s around a 1 in 3 chance that you’ll experience a cyber security breach.

Falling victim to cyber-crime can be devastating for any organisation and when you consider that small and medium organisations like ours make up 99.9% of Britain’s 5.5 million private sector businesses, cyber-crime represents a real threat to the whole of the UK economy. As part of the UK’s National Cyber Security Strategy, the Cyber Protection Network has been created to help improve the ability for UK organisations, be they business or charities, to defend themselves against cyber-attack.

What to expect at the session

The Cyber Protection Network’s leadership session is approximately 1.5 hours (including questions), so just a little longer than our usual Finance Network presentations. It is pitched at senior leaders and decision-makers and is limited in technical complexity.

The session covers:

  • Current Cyber Threats & Trends
  • The motivation of cyber criminals
  • How criminals exploit weak passwords
  • Data Breaches
  • Detecting Suspicious Events
  • The importance of 2FA
  • Backups
  • Ransomware
  • Denial of Service attacks
  • Supply chain threats

Book your place

To book your place at the meeting, or if unable to attend on the day, to request a copy of the slides and the recording, please click here.

Please share this information with colleagues in your organisation who you feel would be interested in attending and encourage them to do so.

You will see a brief confirmation on screen once you have submitted your registration form. You will not receive a confirmation email and for the sake of clarity, the event will be called Awareness Training on the form. The Teams Meeting Link and Joining Instructions will be sent to you directly by the Financial Governance Team nearer the time of the event in the usual way.

So, please fill in the form using the above link, ensuring your contact details are correct, book out the time in your diary and watch out for the Teams meeting link email.

Please Note: The booking form will close at 5pm on Tuesday 18th April.  If you wish to make a late booking, after the form has closed, please email Mark Tomlinson directly.

Further sessions for your staff and volunteers

  • Phishing
  • Securing accounts – passwords and 2FA
  • Improving our privacy online
  • Securing devices
  • Public Wi-Fi risks

Paul has blogged about his experience on LinkedIn, where he gave his thoughts on how person-centred support can play a key role in keeping older people fit and well, especially during periods of pressure on the NHS. Paul also outlined three simple actions that politicians should support now to make sure this winter crisis doesn’t happen again.

“I had a really rewarding day with colleagues from Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove. Like so many local Age UKs I’ve visited, I can see the huge difference we are making to older people’s lives.”
