This was an Information Session to discuss different options local Age UKs can explore to support current and new staff during the cost of living crisis.

“Charity Reserves” | 20th July 2022

This Finance Network Meeting saw Katie Cooper and Lucy Rowley from BDO LLP take an in-depth look at ‘Charity Reserves.’

“Essentials of Good Financial Reporting” | 29th June 2022

At the June Finance Network Meeting, Naziar Hashemi and Mark Atkinson from Crowe U.K. LLP presented on the topic ‘SORP – essentials of good financial reporting.’

“VAT” | 23rd February 2022

Our Age UK VAT Helpline support provider Crowe LLP, updated us on all things VAT, focussing on areas which have affected many charities over the past eighteen months.

“Big Plans, Strategy and Business Models” | 19th January 2022

Nick Wilkie, former charity chief executive, government policy adviser and visiting lecturer at The Centre for Charity Effectiveness, presented on the primary topic: Big Plans, Strategy and Business Models – thinking out loud.

“Charity Legal Structures” | 15th December 2021

The subject of the final Finance Network Meeting of 2021 was “Charity Legal Structures” and the presenter was Nick Vaughan, of Paris Smith LLP who has been a volunteer consultant with Cranfield Trust since early 2020. 


“Making Difficult Decisions”| 24th November 2021

This Finance Network Meeting covered the topic “Making Difficult Decisions”. David Brown, a volunteer consultant with Cranfield Trust, explored the options for SMTs and trustees to consider when faced with a significant deficit budget forecast.

“Business Cases” | 20th October 2021

In this meeting, Helen Blundell and Jim Clifford, both from MHA McIntyre Hudson, discussed the ‘What, Why, When, How, and for Whom’ of Business Cases.

“Key Performance Indicators & Dashboards” | 21st July 2021

This meeting covered the topic “Key Performance Indicators and Dashboards” and featured a presentation from Mark Salway and Marcus Lees-Millais of Moore Kingston Smith LLP entitled ‘Are you measuring what really matters to your organisation?’


Going Concern – Financial Sustainability | 23rd June 2021

The primary topic of this meeting was ‘Going Concern – Financial Sustainability’. The keynote speaker was Sudhir Singh, Partner and Head of Not For Profit at MHA MacIntyre Hudson.

Managing Reserves | 24th May 2021

This Finance Network Meeting covered the vitally important issues of managing reserves, revising reserves policies and reassessing costings models in the light of changed financial positions. Jill Halford, Head of Charities at BDO presented on reserves at this meeting.

Opportunities, Risk, and Considerations for Recovery | 24th March 2021

This Virtual Finance Network Meeting focussed on opportunities, risks & considerations for recovery, including a presentation from Leo Jones, Head of Charities and Not for Profit Organisations at HSBC.


Forecasting in a time of Uncertainty | 24th February 2021

This meeting covered paying attention to costs and the allocation/apportionment of costs to projects, as well as knowing how to calculate free reserves, and consider the recognition of restricted and unrestricted funds.

This Virtual Finance Network Meeting included a key presentation from Crowe UK LLP, a leading audit, tax, advisory and risk firm, which manages our Age UK VAT Helpline.
