Christmas Fundraising Campaign – Campaign Assets now live on Brand Hub

Following on from our recent update about our Christmas Fundraising Campaign, the first batch of Christmas assets are now available on Brand Hub to help you promote your Christmas campaigns on social media. If you click into ‘Assets’ they are right at the top. You will see three different versions of wording for social media, as well as images that are the correct dimensions for those channels.

Last year, you may remember that we adapted our campaign messaging to reflect the increased level of need, with the campaign line ‘Now more than ever, no one should have no one’. This year, we have a new campaign proposition asking supporters to ‘Make Christmas a little brighter for a lonely older person’. Full details can be found here.

A reminder of what you’ll see and where of Age UK’s national campaign

Online: We will be launching an integrated fundraising and brand campaign across our social channels which you may see on Facebook and Instagram, as well as testing new channels such as YouTube and Online Display to really make our campaign as digital first as possible. When streaming TV on digital channels you may also see some videos of Age UK storytellers.

Offline: We have inserts, door drops, partially addressed mail and our Warm Appeal all launching in November. As usual, we will have some PR activity around Christmas and be looking at ways we can involve our celebrity ambassadors to generate coverage and amplify our campaign.

The campaign will be driven by the experiences of real people who have been supported by Age UK’s national Telephone Friendship Services who have been kind enough to share their stories. Our lead storyteller is Terry, who you will see on the majority of our creative, and our two supporting storytellers are Connie and Michael.  All three of them will feature heavily across our digital channels, as well as in print. We are so grateful to them all for sharing their stories with us to help support the Christmas campaign.

Reminder: Deadline Extended for Dementia Programme Grant Funding!

A reminder that the deadline to apply for the second round of grant funding for the Dementia MCST Programme has been extended to Monday 6th December.

A quick reminder that we have extended the deadline to apply for grant funding for the Dementia MCST Programme, with at least 12 grants still available! We appreciate that this is a very busy time of year, so we hope this extra time will enable more Partners to be part of this exciting programme. The application process remains the same and you can find out full details about the programme, including how to apply, on the Loop here. Applications are open until midday on Monday 6th December.

The Together Fund – Survey to gauge interest in physical activity funding

We’ve set up a quick survey to gauge Network interest in a new set of physical activity funding from The Together Fund. Find out all about the fund below, along with the link to the survey.

We are looking to gauge interest in a new round of funding to the network through the Tackling Inequalities Fund – now called The Together Fund. Age UK is a National Partner in the Sport England-funded programme and since July 2021 has supported 37 local Age UK partners with 41 grants averaging £4.5k each to provide opportunities for older people to take part in physical activity. Plus, an additional 20 local partners have received TIF funding from other National Partners including Active Partnerships and Versus Arthritis. The Together Fund will see additional funding committed to help the four groups that, from Sport England research, are being disproportionately affected by the pandemic and experiencing significant falls in their levels of physical activity: people with long term health conditions, those from lower socio-economic groups, those from culturally diverse communities and those living with a disability. We also know from Age UK’s research that physical activity levels in older people have significantly decreased.

Eligible projects which could be funded include; physical activity sessions and games for people attending day care centres, staff and volunteer training, chair based exercise, yoga and tai chi classes, strong and steady sessions, small items of equipment, walking groups, dancing classes and any activities that will lead to an increase in physical activity levels in older people.  

We would be very grateful if you could fill in the Together Fund survey so we can find out if there is sufficient interest to apply for funding from Sport England for this new programme. The survey is open until 1st December.

Still time to apply for Dementia Programme Grant Funding

There’s still time to apply for the second round of grant funding as part of the Dementia Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) Programme.

A reminder that grant funding applications for the Dementia Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) Programme will close on Monday 1st November. Generous funding from the Association of British Insurers’ Covid-19 Support Fund means that 32 grants of up to £20,000 are available to deliver the only non-drug treatment recommended to improve cognition, independence and well-being for people living with mild to moderate dementia. MCST takes places on a weekly basis in a group setting and provides its members with the opportunity to take part in meaningful and stimulating activities that are proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning. The groups are also a fun, supportive environment where people can build new friendships and peer support.  

Grants of up to £20,000 are available to set up two MCST groups over a 12-month period, which can be delivered face-to-face, virtually, or one of each. 

Applications open until Monday 1st November, with successful partners commencing set up in January 2022. For information regarding the current Programme, please see our website here.

Our multi-award-winning winter brand & fundraising campaign is back, launching on Monday 1st November! Last year, you may remember that we adapted our campaign messaging to reflect the increased level of need, with the campaign line ‘Now more than ever, no one should have no one’. This year, we have a new campaign proposition asking supporters to ‘Make Christmas a little brighter for a lonely older person’. Find out full details below, including when your organisation can access campaign assets to get involved.

Campaign assets for brand partners

Our Brand Partner Guide will follow in the next week, with guidance and resources for fundraising and raising awareness of your organisation at Christmas. We will be sending you a poster, web assets and wording for social. We really hope you like these and that they will help you to get involved with the campaign.

We’ll also be including information about our exciting new Community Fundraising product Jingle Bakes, and how you can get involved with it – as well as details of the return of Run Your Age.

Charity Finance Group Membership Bursaries

Garfield Weston Foundation still has several bursaries available for smaller charities to join the Charity Finance Group! Find out how to apply before the 31st October deadline.

We have been made aware of an opportunity for smaller charities to join the Charity Finance Group (CFG) via a bursary made available by the Garfield Weston Foundation. The bursary closes at the end of this month – our apologies for the short notice of this reminder. Full application details are below and we would recommend the offer to any Brand Partners who are not already members of the CFG, as the benefits of membership are well worth the modest annual subscription.

Update: NHSE Seasonal Surge Support Tender

An update on the NHS England Seasonal Support Tender. Find out how we’re partnering with British Red Cross for this opportunity and how Brand Partners can be involved.

Age UK has partnered with British Red Cross to bid for the NHSE Seasonal Surge Support contract to support patient flow through provision of hospital discharge and community out of hospital wrap around care. You can find out more below about how Brand Partners can be involved, including contact details for any questions you may have at this stage. Due to procurement rules, we are restricted in how much we can say about the tender and the submission at this time, however we will keep you regularly updated about the outcome, which is expected by the 25th of October.

Procurement conditions for this tender required either a single provider or a consortium to have a lead provider. Factoring the ‘all age’ element and other compliance requirements, it was agreed between the partners that British Red Cross would be the lead who, if successful, would sub-contract Age UK and Brand Partners to deliver the contract. Age UK proposes to act as a form of agent on behalf of the lead provider and Brand Partners to support both mobilisation and delivery during the contract period. The plan is to harness the capacity of as many Brand Partners who are willing, along with other voluntary sector providers, to respond to surge demand when and where it presents during the year(s).

In assessing the opportunity, both organisations realised we are stronger together and have a greater competitive edge by presenting a support offer that brings together our collective expertise, capabilities, and resources more effectively to make an even greater difference.

Age UK and British Red Cross have had a close working relationship supporting the NHS over the last three years of winter pressures and during the pandemic. This successful collaboration has helped tens of thousands of people across the country to have safe and supported discharge from hospital and assistance to recover at home, along with out-of-hospital support to prevent admission or readmission. Our aim is to use this contract opportunity to build a longer-term partnership between our organisations to leverage more opportunities, whether procurement driven or innovation led. Such a partnership should help our organisations to achieve our respective and collective purpose to help people recover from crisis and to support older people to achieve and maintain their independence and wellbeing.

For Brand Partners, we hope that this opportunity and partnership presents real benefits, not least the ability to scale your services and solutions to those most in need, tackle health inequalities, gain additional funding for prevention, and demonstrate to local and regional NHS systems the strategic imperative and value of your capacity and provision.
