Help shape the new Quality of Information and Signposting Standard (QISS)

Join the new Community of Interest to help shape the new Quality of Information and Signposting Standard (QISS).

Age UK’s Quality & Transformation Team are creating a new Quality of Information and Signposting Standard (QISS) to distinguish it from the Information and Advice Quality Programme (IAQP) we currently deliver. We are in the very early stages of doing this and want to make sure the standard is co-produced with local Age UKs, to make sure that meeting the standard is as practical as possible. Find out full details below, including how to join the new Community of Interest.

We’d love for you to work with us in developing the new standard; from agreeing the indicators and benchmarks through to how it will be assessed and delivered.

Developing the Quality of Information and Signposting Standard (QISS) Together

The new Quality of Information and Signposting Standard (QISS) will be developed to support local Age UKs to assess the quality of the information and signposting you deliver across a range of services within and beyond your Information and Advice offer.

We know from feedback during the Quality Review Process and from regional meetings, that separating the Quality Standards for information and signposting from those for delivering advice will be welcomed. This is because many staff and volunteers within wider service areas do deliver information and signposting, but don’t always also deliver advice as we determine it.

The QISS will enable Brand Partners to effectively identify good practice, areas for development, and demonstrate the quality of your services.

We would like to work with partners to work on the following key areas:

  1. What should be in / out of the QISS? Reviewing and shaping the standard, considering the benchmarks and indicators and deciding what is out of scope.

Aim: to ensure that the standard is appropriate to services that deliver information and signposting as well as meeting quality requirements.

  2. A QISS pilot. Shaping and piloting a new approach to assessing the quality of information and signposting.

Aim: to develop an approach to self-assessment that works well for partners and meets quality requirements.

  3. Identifying what guidance and support to offer. Identifying what guidance and support might be offered to partners to embed the standard.

Aim: to ensure partners feel confident in implementing and understanding the standard.

Community of Interest Meeting Schedule

Our Community of Interest will meet six times over the autumn (through September to November) with each 90-minute meeting an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas.

We want to capture and build on the good things that are already happening across the network and also recognise that partners are at a range of starting points – for some, quality within services that deliver information and signposting is already embedded, whereas for others this will be a change of approach. The meeting agendas will be set jointly, and we will take a workshop / discussion approach.

Our meeting dates are:

  • Wednesday 14th September | 2 – 3:30pm
  • Monday 26th September | 3 – 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 11th October | 1 – 2:30pm
  • Wednesday 26th October | 2 – 3:30pm
  • Tuesday 8th November | 1 – 2:30pm
  • Monday 21st November | 2 – 3:30pm

All meetings will be on Teams.

You can join whichever meetings you are able to, although you can also attend all six if you wish.

This Community of Interest will appeal to anyone who delivers information and signposting, or who is responsible for managing, overseeing or leading on services that may deliver information and signposting.

We welcome a wide range of people to attend; from trustees to frontline staff, so that we get a range of views.

Book your place

If you would like any more information or would like to join this community of interest, please contact Jo Holloway-Green by 26th August.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you on developing this together!

Organisational speed of response has been enabled by streamlined, focused delegation and greater board entrustment of staff and volunteers. Other efficiencies can include proportionate reporting to the board on the core areas they need to measure.

The programme has been split into three separate sessions, which can be attended as a full programme, or individually – the sessions are interlinked and build on each other. It has been designed for charity Trustees and Chief Executives, and is suitable for those new in post as well as the more experienced who are wanting a refresher.
