Age UK Wirral Shortlisted in the Investors in People Awards 2021

Age UK Wirral has made the final shortlist for UK Employer of the Year: Gold in the Investors in People Awards 2021. In a record-breaking year for entries, with nearly three hundred organisations involved, this is an outstanding achievement and one that everyone at Age UK Wirral is proud of.

The Investors in People Awards celebrate the very best organisations and individuals from around the world across various organisational, people, wellbeing and leadership categories. Each year hundreds of organisations from the UK and abroad battle it out to take home one of the sought after trophies to show their award-winning commitment to investing in their people.

“It is a privilege to be shortlisted for this award; a clear indication of the dedication and hard work the team has invested in the organisation.  After the challenges of the last 18 months, I am delighted that the efforts of all of my colleagues have been recognised and I could not be any prouder of them.”

Corporate Digital Support at Age UK Blackburn with Darwen

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen have recently started a new local initiative in response to their struggle to find IT/Digital volunteers to support older people on a 1 to 1 basis.

When funding for a recent digital project came to an end, Age UK Blackburn with Darwen were unable to find alternative funding to continue. This coincided with one of their long-standing IT volunteers leaving and another taking an extended break, so despite trying hard to recruit replacements, the waiting list for their 1 to 1 IT lessons kept growing.

The charity has had a great working relationship with their local Santander branch in Blackburn for many years, which has provided support with both awareness raising and events. They approached Santander with a longer term corporate volunteering proposal and they agreed to free up a staff members to work for an hour exclusively with an older person on a rolling basis over the course of four weeks.

On the right is a picture of Rachel from Santander with Norma. Norma’s lesson for this week included dealing with update notifications on an ipad and how to save and delete pictures. Both are really enjoying their regular learning sessions together.

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen hope to replicate this initiative with other organisations too and wanted to share their progress with the Network in case this initiative could provide a solution for another Age UK.
